And the great thing is that to enjoy it you don’t necessarily have to go to an ice cream shop, as its preparation is much easier and faster than you can imagine. Can’t believe it? Then read on, because we are about to reveal the recipe for coffee affogato!
Coffee affogato: the basic recipe
This first recipe we propose is the easiest and most traditional one. The beauty of coffee affogato, in fact, lies in its pleasant versatility, which allows you to enrich it with numerous ingredients, chosen according to your taste and preferences.
Before delving into the preparation of the variants, in any case, let’s first see what the ingredients of the recipe for coffee affogato are, thought in this case for 2 people:
- 200 g of ice-cream;
- 2 cups of bitter espresso;
- Cream for desserts;
- chocolate chips.
As for the first ingredient, namely ice cream, you are free to choose the flavor you like most. Traditionally, fiordilatte and vanilla are usually used, but also cream and hazelnut.
If you are a particularly gluttonous person, however, you can jump straight to chocolate. The only flavour we advise you to avoid, paradoxically, is coffee itself, as “too-much chokes.” Once you have determined the flavour of your ice cream, therefore, you should proceed in this manner:
- prepare espresso coffee and, in the meantime, place two scoops of ice cream inside a small cup or glass;
- whip the cream for desserts;
- when the coffee is ready, pour it hot directly over the ice-cream;
- garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a few chocolate chips.
As you can see for yourself, this is a quick and easy recipe that you can prepare at any time of the day: even in the morning before going to work. And the great thing is that we are only at the beginning, as coffee affogato can be enriched with even more delicious ingredients!
Coffee affogato: the recipe with liqueur
This second recipe for coffee affogato is reserved for true connoisseurs. We ourselves, who know about coffee, experienced true nirvana when we tasted it, precisely because of its secret ingredients, namely the liqueur. But let’s go in order and see, first, the ingredients that are needed to prepare it:
- 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream;
- 4 cups of bitter espresso coffee;
- 2 small glasses of amaretto liqueur, grappa, or Nocino.
Once you have gotten your ingredients, first you need to arrange the 4 cups of coffee on as many saucers, filling each one with a scoop of ice cream. At that point pour a drizzle of your chosen liqueur over it and, in the meantime, prepare the coffee.
When it’s ready, pour that into the cups as well, and before you know it, you’ll have a particularly fine coffee affogato, perfect for a novel summer aperitif.
Coffee and mascarpone affogato: the recipe for the sweet tooth
This third and final recipe is designed for people with a particular sweet tooth, as it involves the addition of mascarpone cheese. Being more “caloric” than the others, the resulting coffee affogato is perfect for a tasty snack, also great for children. To prepare it, therefore, you will need to get:
- 150 g fresh liquid cream;
- 150 g mascarpone (or ricotta) cheese);
- 30 g of powdered sugar;
- 30 g coffee (for the actual affogato).
In addition to these, you will also need separate ingredients to make the coffee creamer, that is:
- 40 g soluble coffee;
- 250 ml very cold water;
- 200 g granulated sugar.
As a first step, you need to prepare the coffee and let it cool. Meanwhile, whip the cream to snow with the help of whips. In a bowl, soften the mascarpone the addition of the powdered sugar, add the cold coffee and mix everything with a whisk until the mixture is smooth. At that point, incorporate the whipped cream a little at a time, helping yourself with a spatula.
Having done this, you can prepare the coffee cream, mixing the ingredients you have previously obtained with the help of a whisk, until you obtain a soft and frothy solution, which you will have to keep in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
At the end of the time, prepare the cups, inside of which you will insert the coffee cream and the affogato with mascarpone. For best results, you can indulge in decorating it with chocolate sprinkles, which will make your coffee affogato even more irresistible!
