If you are a coffee lover, you know that this drink has many energizing properties, is enjoyable at any time of the day, it is a convivial opportunity to meet friends, and it leaves a unique, irresistible aroma. But unfortunately, caffeine also has its negative sides! This substance can leave dark marks on the cups that are very difficult to remove with common dish detergents. Generally, this kind of stain tends to accumulate over time, making the usual washing useless. For regular coffee consumers, therefore, it becomes an embarrassing problem to receive guests and serve tea or coffee in those dark, brownish-stained cups. But how do you remove stains from coffee cups? If you think you’ve already tried all possible alternatives without success, don’t despair. There are many ways to get your favourite porcelain set back as bright as it once was and proudly show it in your coffee corner in the kitchen. And, you will be amazed, it is not necessary to resort to whitening or aggressive products. These could leave residues and alter the taste of your next coffee. Common whiteners have a stench that is very strong and lasting, and that routine rinsing cannot get rid of. So, for coffee lovers, drinking coffee from a white cup would be a genuine grief. Additionally, some agents damage porcelain and ceramic, so if you use them to clean coffee stains, you can end up having to throw away the entire set. You can whiten the mugs with homemade cleaners, made with ingredients you surely already have on hand: baking soda, corn starch, vinegar, salt, or toothpaste. Today we reveal some natural remedies to effectively remove coffee stains from cups.

Baking soda

Baking soda is a very powerful natural whitener. To use it, just put a small amount on the bottom of the cup after washing it. Then add a little water to form a creamy and consistent paste. Let the mixture act for a few minutes and, after a few minutes, rub the cup with a sponge. Rinse the cup thoroughly, until all baking soda residue is removed. Remember that the best way to wash your cups is to choose soft, non-abrasive materials. Otherwise, the surface of the cup could be damaged.

Corn starch and vinegar

Wine vinegar has a strong sanitizing and stain removing power. It can be used alone or together with other natural products to whiten the cups without scratching them or making them fade. Its action becomes more immediate when combined with corn starch, together with which it forms a powerful detergent. To make the best use of it, you must first mix the two products to form a thick paste. Once you get the right consistency, pour the mixture over the bottom of the cup and the stained parts. Leave it on for a few hours for it to be effective. After the time has elapsed, rub with a small piece, and remove the residues with water. You can also use vinegar to clean you lever coffee machine, as is a great alternative to using harsh or extremely pungent detergents.

Salt and vinegar

The kitchen salt, in addition to flavouring food, is very effective in domestic cleaning. Not surprisingly, it is also used in the dishwasher to clean dishes at best. Coarse kitchen salt is a very delicate abrasive that does not damage plates and cups. It can be used together with vinegar or lemon juice to remove stains from your cups. The latter are powerful whiteners and can help make your tableware shine. How? Form a thick paste by mixing two tablespoons of salt with white wine vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for a few hours for it to take effect, then remove the mixture. Rinse the cup well.

Toothpaste

It sounds strange, but toothpaste is one of the best allies for removing stains from cups. Its action thoroughly whitens porcelain and ceramics, giving the dishware their ancient splendour. Many products for the teeth contain natural whiteners, designed to eliminate stains from teeth in a delicate way, and without attacking the enamel. The toothpaste, therefore, acts on the dishes in the same way. Just spread a small amount on the halos and leave to act for a while (without the product drying out). Finally, just rinse the cup as you usually do.

Summary

Coffee lovers know that caffeine can create annoying and embarrassing stains on cups. The substance after a prolonged use can darken the cups and form halos that are very difficult to remove. In the long term, conventional solutions like bleach or other chemical whiteners tend to destroy the cups, necessitating a complete service replacement. And what about the taste? The first time you wash the cup, the detergent scent is not completely gone, and it can alter the flavour of the coffee, making your dishes useless. To make your favourite service shine again, you can use very simple home remedies, without resorting to whiteners that are harmful to you or aggressive for your ceramic service which are not eco-friendly. Many natural cleaners can be made with ingredients that for sure you already have at home, such as baking soda, white wine vinegar, salt, lemon, or toothpaste.
